Voltige
(1) Originally used to describe an act performed to open the circus show, where riders, standing on the backs of horses, struck various poses and jumped from horses and across barriers.
(2) Now used to describe an act in which the lower performers join their hands into a grid support (known as a 'chair'), and throw the upper performer (usually a girl) up into increasingly high positions or to each other. The upper performer does various jumping feats or freezes in still poses having found balance instantaneously.
